Again, I'll comment on the photo, here (and in the other 2 paintings). I really like the photo, because the guitarist is off to the left, while it's his guitar that fills the picture, not him. (He's an 'anchor' to the photo, while the guitar is the star...) He looks a little like B.B. King! And the reddish brown hue of the curtain behind is a fine backdrop to all those golds, yellows, reds, etc. I really like the photo: It takes us right into the act. And the microphone stand is a fine vertical contrast to that lonnnng guitar neck.

The big change in your painting is that wild raindrop-earthen background! You put him against a very dynamic, pulsing background---which looks a little like a chunk of earth with rain all over it; or like grease in a pan with water droplets on the top (as water floats to the top). You did a photo of grease, a while back, and this reminds me of that: Popping with energy and light. It picks up the energy of the music. Then, you did your usual strong and vital brushstrokes, to give light and great life to the guitarist's skin. And you caught the zig zag of his shirt, with great light to make it shine, and it gives light 'behind' the guitar. (You did the same thing with light, in the N. Lutcher painting.) Wonderful light on the guitar too. And his face, though half off the canvas, is powerful and intense---his eye is immersed in music making: That's a musician's gaze, if ever there was one. The stand has light in it too...A marvelous, active painting; looking like he's playing in front of a great bubbling spring. Terrific work, Jock.

Rosin on the bow, and here we go. Undeniably cool experimentation, Jock.
