Description
THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN ANNIVERSARY AIRSHOW, 2015.
The oncoming war in Europe involved many aircraft types, most are little known or now forgotten..
Everyone knows Spitfires and Hurricanes, but pilots had to be trained and quickly, a vast array of aircraft were used, built or impressed..
As part of this excellent show (possibly the best I've seen at Duxford and I've seen many), the training arm was honoured..
Here, in formation, from top right are ;
Boeing PT-17 Stearman,
Bucker Bu-131 Jungmann (bottom right) ,
de Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth, (bottom left),
Stampe SV4C, (top left).
Yes, Stearmans were impressed into the RAF for a short while if in Private hands.
Very little commentary at this show, displays were interspersed with Churchill's speeches etc.. Masterful...

Nice photo of these rare birds. I had to take a close look at the big image to see that the Stampe, Tiger Moth and Jungmann were not the same plane in different liveries. Lucky you, to get to see such, and photograph them! As you say, not much said about training planes, despite their important role in training. Keep up the good work! :-)

Can't win a war without trainers. Excellent bipes.

Nice combo!
The RCAF leased a few Stearmans for the BCATP... but the open cockpit made it unsuitable to use during the winters. They actually modified the Tiger Moths with the addition of an enclosed canopy...

Great picture of very beautiful aircraft. I like the Stearman and the Tiger Moth.

Great shot of these beauties, Rob! And I bet that foursome made a delightful sound.

Would you really want to go up in it in your own hands is the question no one ever asked.
