Computer geek extarodinaire, I love to tinker with gadgets and tech items to get them to do what I want. I'm either logically artistic or artisically logical. I'm also rude, crude, semi-barbaric, socially unacceptable, and totally psychotic. On the bright side - I am potentially harmless. I'm currently trying to write some short stories about the fae as well as a novel on those same fae as well as two other novels. The programs I have for photo and image editing are: Photoimpact from Ulead, Adobe Photoshop 7 and Corel Paint Shop Pro 2X. Recently I've added DAZ Studios as well as Terragen, Blender and Google Sketch to my list of programs crowding my hard-drive. All this and much more on an old Pentium III 450 with 396 Megs of memory and operating Windows XP. It does get interesting at time.As of December 26, 2008, I have added Vue 7 Pioneer to my list of reason of why I'm going insane.

And it's been a very long time since I had my eyes checked. :( I'm sorry about your situation, Mike. I hope the surgery will be as straight-forward and quick for you.

I worry about loosing my sight a lot being borderline Diabetic among the many other ailments Old Age springs on one. The thought of Blindness is worse than hearing you have Cancer, for me anyway. Get the Surgery and treatments man, Cataracts and Glaucoma are scary but also treatable and controllable, stay strong and good luck.

Both my wife & I have been told we are probably going to need cataract surgery within 2 or 3 years. This has become a very common form of surgery with a very high success rate. I know quite a few people who have had cataract surgery & all were happy with the results. Hope the drops help & your vision stabilizes until you have your surgery...

I have known several people that had the surgery and they are good to go the same day. having the right doctor is important. an eye doctor told me that if my very minor cataracts get worse, I can look forward to being able to see without glasses. I would do it now but medicare will not pay until the vision is effected

hey Mike! Cataract surgery is the MOST preformed surgery there is!! They want to fix you so you won't have to wear glasses by putting a lens in with most of the correction you need. If you eyes are very bad, this means they have to do both, as the brain has issues if the correction is wildly different....
The eye drops suck, but they'll preserver your vision!! Even bad & blurry vision is better than NO vision! The Beta blocker one may give you Horrific Nightmares!!!
If you do Yoga, avoid head stands and inversions as that raises the pressure in the eyes.
Prayers for you!
I like the image!!

Sorry to hear about the eyes, Mike. I'm very close to having the surgery myself. As for the glaucoma, take some marihuana and gently sauté it. Then mix it with your favorite jelly and eat it. Kind of like coconut. It has been found to help alleviate the glaucoma.

Sorry to hear of you eye problems. When I first saw to pic. I thought gee that is close to what I see without my glasses. Poignant when I read afterwards about your eye problems. I have cataracts too and macular degeneration. Lucky for me the diabetes has yet to get to my eyes like it has to my hands and feet. Needless to say, I think you and I even with glasses do not have 20/20 vision. I have nuclear cataracts. I think I am close to surgery too.(at least according to eye doctor).

Looks just like a Michael Bray VFX clip from a Transformer movie...I guess that can be pretty annoying after a while ! LOL
As for your eye's, don't sweat it, Mum (blondeblurr) had both her eye's done and few weeks apart and now she can better than she has in 40 years ! only side effect is that occasionally in the right light they get a weird cat like glow, which is a pretty cool bonus and scares the crap out of trick or treaters !
~Cheers~

I've taken that same picture before - lol I hope the drops will delay the surgery a bit !!!

My sister is having a cataract op next week. it doesn't take long. I know lots of people who have had it done. My sister would say this pic is what she sees.

Mike my friend, it seems as though you have had your share of ups and downs. Five of my patients are scheduled for the cataract surgury in the next month. It is a very common surgery. I worry more about the glaucoma worries me a bit more. Please be diligent about using the drops. As several have said, your vision will dramatically improve with the surgery. I understand the worry of surgery on your eyes but this is a fairly strife forward surgery. You will do fine. I too am facing this. Mine are still slight though. My prayers are with you.

I can add my sympathies re your eye problems. I had cataracts removed about 10 yrs ago..miraculous! i saw better than since being 12 with my new lens And just keep doing the drops..a friend has been doing that for years and all OK. My problem is dry eye syndrome..gives limited time to deal with pix...reason I don't upload as many images now. Cheer up''all will be well, I'm sure
Madbat
Aww man, I'm sorry to hear that. I'd be pretty freaked about it as well, but get it done. I hope you will enjoy better vision than you had before.

Cataract surgery is now making wonders, from what I've heard. It will do the same on your eyes, I'm sure, here the key word is 'trust' and the best is to be expected if you trust your surgeon. Cheer up then...

Sorry to hear about your eyes problems. I've heard that cataract surgery is something mild nowadays ! Trust your doctor and your surgeon ! "Courage !" as we say in France !

I hope the best for you, Mike. I need to get mine checked soon, at my age I know things start going wrong. At one point in my life I had 20/ 10 vision. Doc told me it was a little better then the perfect 20/20 sight. Love your action picture with blur. Take care my friend.

Like you I fear the loss of sight more than anything and likely have cataract surgery in a year or two, along with having floaters. I feel your anxiety.

From the photo, I thought someone groped you as you were about to take a nice photo of some nice young ladies! I've read almost all the comments here. I add my voice to the chorus. I've assisted with anesthesia at a few of these operations in the mid 1980s, and was already then very impressed with what was being done surgically. However, I do understand the fear of being cut into, and in particular, the eyes. I have read accounts of cataract operations in ancient Egypt(! - they probably used opium drops and obsidian knives), ancient Indian cultures, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, etc. So eye surgeons have had long practice. But, as for the glaucoma, DO take your eye drops!! They widen the Schlemm's canals which drain the chamber fluid from the eye. If you don't take the drops, you risk having increased pressure on the nerve fibers going through the back of the eye ball. These can then become damaged (or worse, pinched off!), with irreversible damage/blindness as a result (NO cure). There has been laser surgery to open the canals, but I don't know if it's still being practiced, as the drops today are more effective than those in the mid 1980s. So don't be scared of the drops. Good Luck! And keep us informed! :-)
