I'm not back yet, Steve, but I read about your back, your pain, and your struggle with cigs (the latter, in my gallery), and I'm sorry you're struggling these days. I know that cigarettes are a really difficult habit to break---I never smoked them, though I smoked pipes believe it or not, and cigars, years back. But I've been close to many smokers, and I know it's really hard to give up. (I know people who tried many times before they finally conquered it.) So I'm sorry you're struggling with it. And as for your back and whatever else has hit you of late, I hope you're on the mend. I chose to comment on this image because it was a departure from many of the pieces I've commented on (which I've loved thoroughly), and because I just loved this the minute it went up. Maybe, in light of your health matters, it's a really fine pick-me-up.
Love what you did with the characters. I love the characters to begin with, mind you, but you made this wonderful winter scene, with a bunch of terrific characters unfazed by the snow, and just walking around, lounging and enjoying themselves. Love the postures, the arm on tree, arms out so happily, that elephant-like creature pointing, the snowman lost in some wonder or thought, and the panting dog and the rabbit, etc. Everyone is fixated. And the cat (I assume one of their main fixations) reminds me of the Cheshire cat, all-knowing. But---in this case---maybe eager to come down, lol. Then you have your usual big beautiful orb, and a child-like winter wonderland, with a blue bird from heaven in the background. And a candle in a lantern on a stool...Delightful; and done with your usual total panache, Steve. I hope you get/feel better as the winter goes away. And if you need encouragement to break the cig habit, you have it from me! I've had enough habits in my life to know none of them are easy to let go of. But get better. And when I return to RR, I'll leave more than one comment every 3 weeks. Beautiful image! And the textures in full zoom (huuuuge zoom, lol) are terrific!
