Description
Captured way back on 3/9/07. at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.
The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is a nature reserve in the city of Huntington Beach, California. It is designated by the California Department of Fish and Game to protect a coastal wetland, with its resident threatened and endangered species. "Bolsa Chica" means "little bag" in Spanish, as the area was part of a historic Mexican land grant named Rancho La Bolsa Chica. The Reserve is also called many other names, including Bolsa Chica Lowlands, Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and Bolsa Chica Wildlife Refuge.

Despite the description, I saw very little of any life forms the few times I was there. Some egrets, herons, small birds, a few lizards, and a rabbit. But the ideal place to be if you want to get away from people.

I guess I never realized it had these cliff formations; I remember Bolsa Chica Beach from when I was a young teenager, before it got the designation as a wetlands sanctuary or ecological preserve...it does look like a great place to escape the rest of humanity!

I finally looked this place up on a map---you've posted shots of this many times, and I never really knew how close it was to LA. Because, but for the low house on the left, and a car or two in the background, this could be in Africa. (I was amazed to see that it's 20-30 miles from LA---a mere jaunt.) In any case, a keen geological capture, with the contours curving around beautifully, and the textures of the land shown beautifully too. I can't imagine cliffs on the SCal shore, but California has massive mountains and craggy shorelines, so why not. In any case, a long open shot of beautiful desolation, and you caught the hue contrasts too. I wonder, with helle, whether the water is as present now as it was in 2007. Another fine shot of this locale from you, Harry.
