Nyra crossed the clearing and worked her way through the maze of stone columns that had fallen to the ground. She stopped at the base of the rock mound that surrounded the cave and looked up. The entrance was not visible but she could clearly see the light escaping from it. She told herself, "I know this is a bad idea, but I need to know what is making the light or I will never again feel safe on this island." Nyra was a healer and she had been coming here to collect plants for her remedies. Many of the plants on this island were unique and she couldn't lose it as a resource, but she had to know it was safe. Determined, she started scrambling up the rocks taking care to remain silent. Near the top she lost her footing and dislodged a loose stone, Nyra was horrified but there was nothing she could do to stop it from rolling down and the sound of it striking other rocks cut through the cold night air. Nyra dropped to the ground and held her breath, when the stone finally came to a stop there was a deadly silence. The yelping had also stopped and with her keen elven hearing Nyra listened for any activity from inside the cave. After a time her lungs started to feel as if they would burst and she had to start breathing. As the fresh air filled her lungs, the little yelping started again and Nyra felt a great sense of relief because she had not heard anything inside the cave. She stood up and calmly walked the remaining distance to the top. Edging just over the rim she got her first glance inside, it was stunning! The cavern walls were glowing with a cool bluish light. Nyra immediately recognized the color as the light of moonstone, an ordinary looking rock during the day moonstones glow in the light of the moon. But they are so rare in all her life Nyra had only seen several small flakes. They are also said to have healing powers but Nyra had never felt any healing sensation from them. Moving closer to the entrance and stepping into the full light of the moonstone, Nyra felt a refreshing energy much like a cool breeze on a warm summer's day. Nyra gasped with delight and said, "it is true, moonstones must have healing powers!" She became very excited with this discovery. Amid this beautiful display Nyra spotted some movement, there at the bottom of the cavern was a tiny grey and white wolf pup looking very much like a spirit in the blue light. Nyra said, "Well little one, I came to help you but it seems you have led me to a discovery that will help my village more than you'll ever know!"
