Description

Sequoias (Sequoiadendron Giganteum) occur naturally only along the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, usually between 5,000 and 7,000-ft but occasionally as high as 9,000-ft. There are some 75 groves protected by three National Parks (Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia) and four state parks. I left NAS Lemoore that morning with the intend to visit Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. When I got to the entrance to Kings Canyon Park we were told that the Visitor's Center was closed due to a wildfire. The fire that day was 28,000 acres in size, zero contained and growing. We were told that the Visitor's Center at the Sequoia National Park, about 30 miles along highway 198 was open. They are such impressive trees aren't they. I hope they didn't get caught up in the fire. The smoke looks like fog in this beautiful shot.

|It would be a real shame to lose these wonderful old trees to fires. I hope it was contained quickly. I also hope your lungs have recovered. This smokey shot is very beautiful though.
