Description

We hadn't actually planned to visit the Budapest Zoo, but we found ourselves in the neighborhood with about an hour or two free & decided to go. We didn't have time to see everything there was to see, but we did see quite a bit. In addition to the animals, the zoo also has some very unique Art Nouveau architecture, which is the subject of my first two posts from that visit. I will also be posting a few animal photos I took there in the next few days... From Wikipedia: "Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden is the oldest zoo park in Hungary and one of the oldest in the world. It has 1,072 animal species and is located within Varosliget Park. The zoo opened its doors on 9 August 1866. The park has 1–1.1 million visitors every year. The area is a nature reserve, and has some valuable art nouveau buildings designed by Kornel Neuschloss and Karoly Kos . More than 1,000 species are living there. The most special animals that are present in the zoo are the Komodo dragon and from December 2011 the wombat."

Splendid capture of the most unusual zoo entrance I have ever laid eyes on. Am really impressed by the number of visitors and animal species within those imposing walls.

I'm at an hour and a half, and must move on right now. I will be back though. I chose to end with this because I wanted to go back to your european trip, and because this has a monumental frontal feel to it, even though it's intimate. Real contrast, but it works. The entry has deep oranges and stained reds, with that strong green of the elephant head. It's the focal center of this piece. But the building looms up above and around it, with sheer white surfaces, and "trim" via the soiled browns, etc. Your cutting off the top brings us into the picture more, and the contrast of sheer white in the left sky with the greens (of trees) in front of the right sky makes a fine balance. And the soiled beautiful street tiles are like a carpet of stone or brick laid out for us, for our entrance. Another very sensitive architectural shot from you, where your eye is at work throughout. Beautiful hue and light and dark contrasts. And cropped just right for the concept...
