Description

Apocalypse Skaro! Once more Cybertenko's products come in very handy as this Dr Strangeglove type doomsday control room demonstrates above. This also touchs on another aspect of the Dalek mythos- it is as much about an allegory for the cold war as it is about Nazism in World War II. In the original Dalek story Skaro was said to have been destroyed in a great neutronic war- I believe started by the Thals- but who knows! When the Dalek origins story was retconned in 1975 by Genesis of the Daleks, the neutronic war became the 1000 year war. What started as a relatively quick but devestating nuclear war, became a long drawn out war of attrition. Which version of history is correct? Perhaps....both! The sharper eyed amongst you may recognise the original image for Blast Off! https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/blast-off-/266530- which I posted at the end of January. Daleks, Davros and Skaro are all (C) BBC and The Terry Nation estate 1963 and 1975

That's the beauty of Russel T. Davies' "Time War" concept. It allows for two or more seemingly exclusive and woefully contradictory backstories to be true.

In one timeline, the Thals attack the still humanoid Dals who retaliate with a neutron bomb ending the war within seconds. Surviving Thals retreat to the far side of Skaro and the Dals sealed within their main city surcome to radiation sickness disfiguring their bodies over 500 years until their descendants require mobile iron lungs to sustain them. This is the Skaro Hartnell's Doctor visits.

"Meanwhile" (if such a term has any real meaning here) TimeLords and Daleks from ever diverging and "rewritten" time streams are trying to cancel out each others existence by altering past events.

By the time Baker's Doctor is sent to Skaro (supposedly as yet another strike by the TimeLords), "reality" has been so scrambled by the two sides that the single hour neutronic war has been turned into a thousand year old conflict. The only real constant is that man sized "tanks" driven by xenophobic lumps of hate eventually arise. In the older timeline, they slowly develop over centuries. In this "new" timeline, they are engineered within the span of decades. Who knows? Maybe that Thal rocket attack that injured Davros into needing a life support system was actually a Time War Dalek ensuring Davros would develop the Kaled mutants and their travel machines.

We, the audience, have something of a "g*d's eye view" where we are aware of both, as well as the Doctor being a time traveler.

Some may argue it a "cheat', but the "Time War" allows writers to readily "hand-wave" away any seeming continuity conflicts between stories.

Sincerely,

Bill

Neat work on the panels and Davros is looking decidedly worn and grungy !
