Description

Lichen growing on a tree stump. If the universe is infinite, then why not a lichen nebula? If it's not infinite, then what's on the other side? Please zoom.

I need to improve my vocabulary so I can use a better variety of words than just, "fantastic, gorgeous, etc" ....oh! OH!...I DO know for this one...it is a SUPER novel nebula. Forgive me, roguetographer is a bad influence in this case...and it is 4 am so I am up in the night. I think this could be the best lichen photo in the universe...obviously this photo really has me spaced-out. Seriously though I am amazed at how keen your eye is that you spotted this lichen nebula. Well done. Thanks for sharing the universe with us here.

Shades of the surface of the dwarf planet Ceres in this fascinating capture of the lichen. It does look like something cosmic seen through the Hubble Space telescope.

One of my favourite parts of nature. This seems very blue, I haven't seen many like that.

It's all a matter of scale, right? Humans think size matters, when really it doesn't matter at all...superb shot!

yes, it does feel like a shot of a nebula or some other stellar phenomenon. And people above agree. And, with denise, it's a matter of scale. As your gallery shows often, closeups (and macros) reveal forms that are very similar to those of the macro-universe. Also, this could be a great crater spill from a high plane. Beautiful natural capture, with wonderful strong whites against the blues. And a grit that gives it real detail and character. I'm skipping around, but you've posted a number of beautiful nature closeups in the last couple of months, and this is a wonderful example.
