Description

Taken in the historic Jacksonville Cemetery, where we went for a walk last week. I don't know anything about this individual & as far as I know, he didn't do anything that would merit mention in a history book. But he lived a long life & I suspect he had his share of adventures & people who loved & cared about him & this simple tombstone marks his passing... Please zoom.

I find everyone I talk to is very interesting , you just have to ask! Unfortunately it's a bit late to interview this gentleman......

Your stellar POV really displays the fine lighting effects and textures in this most poignant shot. The gentleman had a long lifespan during that particular period in history.

I also often wonder about the people whose names are carved into the tombstones. This is a great shot of this tombstone with the moss around the edges and the great lighting making it easy to read the name and dates.

Excellent capture of the range of light to shadow and the wonderful textures on the stone

I wrote a tale, a while back, of walking through a cemetery, and a man was sitting on a gravestone. He didn't say much, and was contemplating his food as he ate. I asked him who he was, and he said he was the guy in the grave. I stood there stunned, and then asked more, but he didn't want to talk. He said, "I'm dead, please move on..." It was just a moment in a longer tale, where the moment just "came out" all of a sudden (I didn't plan it). But I thought about it, with this stone...what it would've been like if you could've talked to this man for a bit. A long life for that time, as Harry said, and I agree with Harry about the pov and the lighting and textures. Other fans commented on those too. You highlighted it, for all its simplicity; and the front---in shadow---is quite rich, like a cross section created by someone cutting it in half. And you gave great light to the lower stone, with those luminous blue outlines. Fine angle too. A very simple shot made lucid and alive by your approach. Very strong and touching.
