Description

the water is very low. last year they opened the gates to give a rise of water in the Colorado River to replenish aquatic life. I think it was for the tour guides of the river

The white water marks on the cliffs tell the tale, do they not? Incredibly low level and no snow melt left in the mountains to replenish it. A very good shot of the area however!

Looking pretty bleak for us living here in the southwest! Hope we get some winter recharge to the water sheds! Excellent photo, Richard!

The stained rim shows clearly the water situation at the lake. There are those that think that the lake should have never been created. The area has a high evaporation rate and and the sandstone allows for much seepage. The only people that benefit from this are the houseboat people and other recreation types. As you alluded, having built the dam that created the lake, messes up fish habitat downstream through the Grand Canyon by silting.
