Description

Got back last night from a couple of days in Bandon on the Oregon coast. This is Henry the Fish, a sculpture made entirely from debris (mostly plastic) found on various beaches. It's one of the creations of WashedAshore.org, an organization that tries to educate the public about the damage done to oceans & marine life when plastic & other toxic materials are left on beaches. They organize groups to clean up beaches & then create artworks from the material collected... Please zoom.

Hi beautiful plastic Harry! What a brilliant result of a fantastic action, all that rubbish to turn into such projects. Amazing, and an impressing picture too.

Although I can't grasp the thought of trying to make garbage look good, this is a most impressive collection and image.

Exploring the underwater western coast of Oahu and a couple of places in the Bahamas has biased my perspective, sadly.

Old tires, plastic anything and human filth are not art.

I think it's a great way to educate people; sadly, I'm afraid the ones that need it aren't going to get the message. But the more of us that do the fewer "art supplies" will be available for this group, and that will be a good thing. Great shot of this friendly-looking fellow!

Ouch! What a mutation! The result not only of harsh toxic materials in the ocean, but also radiation from Fukushima. In any event, a great shot of the highly colorful and patterned Henry.
