Description

Hi dear friends, This is what we call "Kievitsbloem", named after the bird : Kievit. In English literally translated it would be the "Lapwing flower", after the Lapwing. Anyway, I've never seen an example of this beautiful flower; and was so excited, that on a small path, during our walk near Terstraten, I discovered this one, standing all alone, just this surprising one. btw, it has a very long stalk. Behind this photo you see this hollow path. In my next upload I show you a closer look at only the flower. Thank you very much for your lovely comments on my "Terstraten" upload. (my last upload).

Now you got me guessing and hunting for more info ... my 'Illustrated Botanica' tells me there are about a 100 species in this genus of bulbs, relative of the lily and tulip, native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. aha! and it thrives under deciduous trees or in rock gardens, if it has plenty of moisture while growing.

I simply love this nodding, maroon coloured, bell shaped goblet with speckles - the first one I ever laid my eyes on - thanks Jacominchen, what a nice surprise 💐

keep well and take great care BB

I just got home after a long weekend away. Now I have so much catching up to do because I did not comment for several days before while getting ready to go either. So it is lovely to begin with this lovely find. What fun that you got to finally see one of these and share with the rest of us. Now I know to look out for them as well.

Golly what an amazing find Mies.

I have never seen this kind of flower before.

It looks so lonely but stands out in this gorgeous area.

What a beautiful place to go out for a walk about the landscape is amazing.
