Your work, in the last few months, has become highly visceral and filled with what feels like views of civilizations; or massive organic 'communities' formed in quarries, caves, along tree trunks, etc. (Metaphorical, of course.) Or, at other times, like cosmic motherboards. Or hidden king-and-queendoms, inside cells. And your titles have the feel of scientific descriptives from another civilization, except your words definitely have Latin and Greek-like forms. It's all been wonderfully inventive and wonderfully real, as if you were giving vast scientific studies of another world, in another part of the galaxy, with a remarkably fine camera and very high resolution.
I start with this because it shows the Bosch-like opulence and excess that you capture in some of your works. One can see near human forms in this, and certainly drooping organic forms, part plant, part animal. The two big forms on the bottom---ie, on either side of the centerpiece (that open enclave with crown-like ornament on top) remind me of Michelangelo's residents of hell. (http://www.italian-renaissance-art.com/images/Mich-Damned.jpg) Ie, in beings drooping as they drop (there's lots of this in the whole fresco). Your piece has nothing to do with hell, but it has drooping, fluid creatures all over the place. Or some of El Greco's elongated, 'liquid' humans (https://cieljyoti.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/greco-7.jpg---forgive the jpg quality!), where their bodies seem to be poured-down the painting. Again, I'm not suggesting you had anything like these in mind, nor anything remotely like "hell" or "heaven"; but rather that you create beings in a kind of cataclysmic apocalyptic 'splash' in pieces like this, with amazing tactility and liquidity---while they still retaining amazing definition, clarity, girth and mass. This is a big spilling quarry of organic forms, with the feeling of one of those Hindu Stupa walls covered with dancing gods and goddesses oozing all over the place. Your light and shade are very complex, the variety of almost Central American masks and other mythic figures is wonderfully dizzying, and the feeling is of coming across a huge cave filled with mythic figures that some distant civilization once adored. Amazing creativity mixed with rigorous discipline. This is typical of what you've been doing, and it's incredibly fine work, Mandi. And boy, I hope everyone zooms your work. I only comment every couple of months (I'm the same in every gallery), but I regret I can't comment every day, here, because your work is deliciously rigorously whole, opulent and effulgent.
