Just a quick upload tonight - with a little silliness to hopefully give you a smile. I've always been of the opinion that the best way to make your self smile is to make others smile first. And God knows, I need a smile right now...
I made the sketch of the freakin-out guy a few years ago, and just found him again recently. So I added a bit of Photoshop foolery to spice him up a bit! LOL
Anyway, two nights ago, my Seagate NAS drive (that I had a bunch of stuff on) decided that - since I hadn't followed my own advice and backed up recently - it would roll over and die. Be glad you weren't within earshot... Anyhow, I took the drive over to Microcenter on my lunch hour yesterday to see if their data recovery techs could pull anything off it. The tech called me today, and of course the news wasn't good.
The biggest thing I lost was a bunch of information and daily logs of calls from work. Nothing official, just a bunch of stuff that made my job a little easier.
Most of the stuff on that drive is still available on other drives, or DVDs; it's just a matter of finding it. Which brings me to the reason for taking a break for a week or so,, Right now, my data/file retrieval "system" is a freaking nightmare. Files are scattered over 3 desktops, 2 laptops, a half dozen external drives and a networked drive. That's not counting all the CDs, DVDs, and now BlueRay discs I have scattered around here. It's like a digital version of "Hoarders."
I really need to take a little time to organize this massive mess, categorize it, (so I can find stuff), and make it less of an epic chore to back stuff up (so I don't lose it - either the data or what's left of my mind). And, I've got a few other network things to work out on top of that. So I'll be a busy little beaver for a few days, at least. But I'll be back hopefully some time next week.
Fortunately, none of the T.N.A. related stuff or any of my Poser content was lost (trust me, I have multiple backups of that). I have some very cool things in the works that hopefully I'll be able to go full speed ahead on after I get this mess under control. Maybe Dan can send the Girls over to lend a hand - or just keep me entertained! LOL
Thanks for dropping by, and for all your wonderful comments! You rock!!
Back soon...

I have so many dvd's and somewhat organized unless I need something. I do backup on a regular basis especially photos and purchases.

The image made me smile and I thank you. This type of incident has always terrified me. I know that if you break a disc can be reconstructed with the NAS but if you break the NAS is a disaster because the discs are coded by the NAS. I decided to use a similar system with two mirrored disks but are readable by any player hardisc think is best.

Yep know that look (big smile) Oh no don't you hate it when that happens ..sadly I know to well Rod.. I'm still trying to find stuff. The good news for us all is T.N.A. survive.. the joys of PC ..I still wouldn't want to be without though ..dose that make me a little crazy ? Take care big hugs

Thanks for the laugh! After Neil's unexpected departure I really need some laughs (and so does poor Rob!). This looks like me on an average day at work (or shall I say "non-work"), except I gave up wearing a tie 3 decades ago! Now, do a good job backing up. I use cd's as they're physical. I have a series of cd cylinders they came in and fill 'em up quickly. I also have external drives for the same. The secret is how to manage the library of cd's. Good luck with it and see you in a while! Keep up the good work! :-)
My rating - off the chart and through the ceiling (oh, NO! More repairs and more expenses!)

Computers are wonderful things until they don't work. Good luck with the organization. Hope Mr. Frazzled has some good booze around.

I wish you well buddy. I know as I just finished what you are doing and guess what. I just sent my computer back to Amazon Sub seller Andorma Camera for ripping me off. I did save most od it but will have to reinstall all my programs again, and then get all the updates. I have not bought a new computer yet. I was hoping for some advise, but have not gotten any. I want a rendering monster which looks like well cost me more than I wanted to spend 2500.00. looks like it will end up in the 3000.00 dollar range. If I make no sense please pardon me I am forced to use a 24 inch monitor and because I am going blind I can not see what I type. When I first saw you doodle I thought it was me, but I looked closer and saw the tie, so not me though I own hundreds. I wish you well. Funny my old small hard drives are still chugging away. I guess they made them better in the old days. They certainly cost more. I will have to take you advice and back up everything. I guess I should get one of those multi-terabyte external hard drives. Live long and prosper Rod.

I think I only backed up my runtimes once, and that was when I moved them to my current laptop. I know I'm asking for trouble doing that. And I have that old HP that I still need to get stuff off.
Good thing your T.N.A stuff is safe. That freaked-out fellow sure fits many of us dealing with tech.

Great drawing, and the level is always just low enough to keep us in perpetual pain with no chance of escape :) Hope the indexing goes well!

Sorry about the hd.. Hate when that happens. I got a broken one with A TON of music that was on it. Still haven't taken it in to see what could be done.

When you posted this, I wanted to scream, "I UNDERSTAND!" 2 months earlier, I had a computer nightmare not unlike yours. Only, in my case, I had the backups---but for reasons no one will ever know, a whole slew of files on my backup suddenly emptied out: The files were there, but there was no data in them. Blanks, every one of 'm. It turned out to be a permissions problem, and to this day no tech expert could figure out how my permissions got that messed up. The permissions gods snuck in at night, that's all. (I wondered why my external HD was laughing for 2 weeks.) I said to a tech guy: "how many backups do I need to SLEEP at night?" And he said, "20,000." Then he added: "Redundancy is highly overrated---esp if the corruption is coming from the source." (I wasn't sure if he meant me or my computer.) He said, "always check your backups to be sure they're ok." And I thought: There's no end. There's no end. I'm gonna have to take a microscope and study the structure of every freakin' sector, from now on...
I'm sorry these last months have brought so many slaps in your face. The powers that be haven't been very kind to you. But if you were going to capture your feelings in a drawing, this is it. I love that face, and the lightning, and the jaundiced yellow, like everything has gone ill. And the computer-ese font. Terrific piece. I hope you're feeling better than this, today. But you caught it all "on tape," as they say. Terrific upload.
