Description

The Water Buffalo or Domestic Asian Water Buffalo has been domesticated in India about 5,000 years ago, and in China about 4,000 years ago. There are two basic types; the River Type Water Buffalo thought to have originated in India that currently occurs in India and points west, including some areas in Egypt and Southern Iraq, and more recently in some European countries. The Swamp Type Water Buffalo, thought to have originated in China. The Swamp Type Water Buffalo occurs from Assam east throughout Southeast Asia, China and the Philippines. More human beings depend on Water Buffalo than any other domestic animal. Water Buffalo are especially suited for tilling rice fields, they are used for transportation, and as a food source. Their milk is richer in fat and protein than the milk of dairy cattle (Source: Wikipedia). This picture was taken near Hoi An, Quang Nam Province on 24 August 2012, Sig...

.Thanks for sharing this interesting information I had no idea they were that widely used. I have only seen them in zoos before and in some photos maybe. But, this photo along with your info really clarifies the importance of this creature. I love how it seems as though the man is tipping his hat to his animal.

PS. Ich wundere mich immer wieder wo die alle ihre Flip-Flopps alle herhaben, gibt's davon in Asien ne Massenproduktion, ja stimmt genau, beim näheren Hinschauen steht auf der Sohle "Made in China" - Grins!

You are right Ute. In the days when I was stationed there they had sandals made from Michelin tires. I had pair of those, they seemed to last forever!
