I first started with CG when I was in high school. In art class we could mess around with 3D Studio Max R2.5. None of the teachers knew anything about how to use the program, all we had was a tutorial book. Although I've always loved computers and 3D, back then I didn't realize a person could make a career out of it. I ended up pretty much dropping it until recently (about 12+ years later).
I studied computer science when I was in college, but at the time sitting in front of a computer for hours on end sounded unappealing. So I got back into what I grew up doing and worked in construction. Now after injuries, falling off roofs and meeting a guy who works in VFX, my passion for CG has been re-ignited. Which brings me to where I'm at today, dabbling with CG any chance I get and loving it!

WOW !! THe atmosphere in this image is absolutely impressive !!!!!

Thanks!!! I wanted to give the impression she's surrounded by burning buildings. So, I put an emissive shader on all the flames emitting at 2700k and put a spot light in front of her to the left side of the image also emitting at 2700k. Then for a fill light I used that free sunset HDR image I link to on my website with it's environment intensity turned down to .5 I think. For the background that wasn't filled in by the environment, I just layered dark grey, almost black, behind the rendered portion of the image. I typically don't have much luck with letting "Draw Dome" fill in that part of the background...

Fabulous image! The flames in the DOF are extremely well done.

Thanks!!! I just got done packaging the flames up as a prop. I'm offering it for free here if you would like to use them in any of your renders!
