I wonder what forces of nature caused this tree to grow into such a strange, convoluted shape? Taken at Shore Acres State Park...

I would imagine that wind plays a large part in the tree's growth/shape. Though this looks like my brain after a looonngg day...

yes the tree could be blown over (ala a few comments above), or perhaps a fire cut down a lot of the tree, and this is what grew on the remainder. It's the tree version of a 'bad hair day'. (The Einstein look.) Broad light on this big spidery thing. And deep shadow in spots around it. The pic is saturated in yellows and ambers. And it feels like a big tree scream. Very powerful work, Claude.
