Description

Captured back on 11/7/10, at a Renaissance Faire held at Felicita County Park, 742, in semi beautiful Escondido, California. Note: This Faire is not to be confused with the one I attended, and posted photos from, at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in semi beautiful Irwindale, California, on 4/27/14.

Believe it or not, Viking helmets didn't have horns. They were an affectation dreamed up by a costume designer working on a Wagnerian opera in the mid 1800s. Considering how appropriate they seem, one must suppose that the Vikings were the ones who got it wrong.

Nice shot, bye the bye!

If you're interested, there are a wide variety of Viking helmets with horns to be purchased on the Internet.

A real man's man, nothing sissy about this fellow! I wonder if that's his real hair? Seems to be some disparity between his beard colour and the head; still, it's his costuming choice (I assume it IS a costume, and not his regular work-wear...) Great portrait of this marauder, Harry!

Boy I love this portrait---with Hendesse, superb. And yes, ala Denise, his hair is a different color and texture than his beard. Who knows...this guy's been around, maybe his hair just decided to go rogue...But what a shot: He's all determination in his gaze, but his outfit says he's been sleeping in it all night, or else he's been working in it all day---that's one crumpled dude. And he's staring you right in the face, not smiling, dead serious, grasping his sword and a bell (???)---maybe he's a school principle for Vikings??? Love his appearance, a super portrait of a no-nonsense crumpled guy. This dude hangs out at bars after a day of pillaging, and eats raw meat. Btw, hard to believe he's an ethnic ancestor to Helle! Does she strike you as the kind of lady who'd shack up with Thor here? (Maybe in her youth, lol...) She DREW outfits like this. Great shot! (And again, the angles here are really fascinating: There must've been a slope in this place...)

He definitely looks the part. I haven't been to a Renaissance Faire in decades, though the Oregon Country Fair (which is more of an annual 60's hippie fair) has it's share of artisans & performers in medieval costumes (as well as in various states of undress)...
