Description

Happy Saturday everyone! Finally, extensive track installation. It's just a pleasure to see something like this in the Province of Ontario - where good transit projects go to die. Anyone who has lived through the reign of Toronto's Rob Ford (may he rest in peace) knows of what I speak. Except in the Region of Waterloo where the iON LRT project is just over a year away from completion. Opening day is scheduled for Fall of 2017. This is Charles Street - at its intersection with Benton Street - in downtown Kitchener (part of Waterloo Region) looking east from the top of the Charles and Benton Garage. I wish that I had more to say about this shot save that it is my favourite from this project thus far. This is also a popular vantage point for other photographers as a quick survey of #wrLRT will demonstrate on twitter. But alas, the words are just not coming to me today so I'll leave you with this scene. A glimpse of what the future may hold for other small or large cities and regions with vision. Oh, and there is the joke about construction crews finding Hitler's bunker underneath this intersection. Cheers!

Lots of work going on there, Denver had something similar done a few years back. Love the view.

A great view from this great vantage point and it will be lovely to have this LRT traversing your city for everyone to use instead of all the cars. We were hoping they would put the rail into Christchurch when half the city was gone in the earthquake but it isn't going to happen worse luck. 😄

An impressive bit of work. It will be really exciting when they get it open.

We all need more trams and less cars. The bunker is actually under the blue box on the left ... if that box is what I think it is!

Now if they could only find a usable high speed, mag lev type system and a futuristic style bullet train, I would definitely travel more often. It would also have to endure our cold and snowy winters. Maybe someday eh... ;)
