Description
Going through a drill, captured back on 11/7/10, at a Renaissance Faire held at Felicita County Park, 742, in semi beautiful Escondido, California.
Actually, I really don't know what those weapons are called. Lances are all I could think of. They look like knives strapped to poles, akin to bayonets at the end of rifles.
And, I hadn't noticed it originally, but the recruit at the far end is wearing running shoes, ala Nikes. A time traveler indeed.

Those "lances" are called halebards. There were many forms, but they usually had an axe head, a spear tip for skewering an opponent and some form of spike opposite the axe. An all round weapon for infantry - hack with the axe, stab with the spear point and the spike to hack a hole in helmets. A useful weapon against cavalry and infantry. I'm really enjoying your photos. Particularly the anachronisms! Keep up the good work! :-)

Fascinating comment by T.Rex: I thought halberds had much larger heads (you read about these things when you study the literature of the time), but I looked them up, and he's right! Gory details too, but I'm sure they served their purposes on the battlefield. And lol at the Nikes: Maybe he's got an iPhone too. Very bright sunny shots, very cheery. And lots of open and very sunny space in both shots, with beautiful atmosphere in the trees in number 2. Nicely seen against the tents, you stood in places that allowed all the visual lines to make music together. And I like the 'look' of the Nike guy: He looks a little like what my grandfather used to call a "shloomp". (Yiddish, a sloppy dude---in case no one ever used that word when you were young.) (I heard it all the time, because I was sloppy.) I love his hat and his slightly tired look. Delightful shots, and very bright. Very colorful sights behind them too...
