Description

For the past few weeks I have been working on making a Smelter Sword from the game Dark Souls 2 for a guy here in town. He had requested it back in March, but it took me a while to get the materials and plan out how I wanted everything to look, and how I was going to put it all together. Now, here we are nearly a month later and its all done! The next one wont take nearly as long, as I made everything using template routing, so I could reproduce the whole thing in less than a day! I know the whole thing doesn't look EXACTLY like the in-game model, but I always make some of my own minor adjustments. The included image is of my son holding the thing up (he's a tall guy). Some vital statistics: - Made of poplar - 5' 10" long (don't know how I ended up two inches short, it was supposed to be a full 6 ') - Made of five separate pieces! The main body (handle and blade), the left and right side horns and the front and back pieces that sandwich the whole thing. - Held together with water activated Gorilla glue. This stuff is amazing! Once you set it up it foams like insulation foam and digs its way into the wood. I normally end up with a lot of foam poking out, but it comes off like insulation foam too. A simple putty knife scrapes it off with ease! - Colored in black and neon green spray paint. The day I painted the green onto it was hot and I thought I ruined the whole thing, but it actually worked out really well! I sprayed the green over the black and the heat combined with the paints inability to go into the wood caused it to dry all cracked. It gives the piece the actual look of the game, in which the sword almost looks like a living stone. - Finished with triple thick glaze - Handle wrapped in 550 paracord for grip.
