Description
This is mostly a collection of beautiful old buildings in the Netherlands just to show Tara how young she is. :) The flowers are because she likes callas.
From top to bottom and left to right: Calla lilies photographed at the Zuiderzee museum in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands, Next to that a woman dressed in old-fashioned clothing at that same museum. a zoomed out view of the St Lucas Guild building in Amsterdam (a very old guild that had artist members such as Rembrandt). The large photo in the center is an old church in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Bottom right is an old home along the canal in Amsterdam. If you look closely the date 1662 is under the topmost window. The bottom center shot is of the "old church in Delft (yes where the famous "delft" blue comes from) The tower actually leans to the side. I think of it as our Dutch version of the tower of Pisa. :) The old church is where the remains of the famous Dutch painter, Vermeer, are buried. Next to that is a close up of the St Lucas guild door.
I hope you have a very happy birthday with all the pampering you want. Gefeliciteerd! (The way the Dutch say Happy Birthday, it literally means congratulations)

I didn't know you lived in Holland. Well, I think I'm just about as old as those venerable antique buildings displayed above in your fine montage. Your friend Tara is a mere youngster compared to me. Nice work.

I never got out of Amsterdam when I was there. I see I missed a lot. A wonderful collection for Tara who is just a kid. Beautiful work.

A beautiful collection of various scenes. For years, before the Berlin Wall came down, every time I went back to Berlin I more or less went the same way. Fly into London, either Gatwick or Heathrow, take the train from King's Cross to Harwich, ferry from there to Hoek van Holland and then via Rotterdam by train to Berlin.I always ordered a meal on the train and every time we went through Holland, whether in the dark or during the day, it looked perfect. Always neat, beautiful flowers and very orderly. At night time one could look into the individual homes as the train went by. Just a very nice country. I don't know if anything has changed in the last 25 years or so.

I think it is still a beautiful country.

Vermeer is one of my very favorite painters & Delft is one of my very favorite towns - I have fond memories of my visits there...

I also love Delft and Vermeer. I was so pleasantly surprised to discover his tomb in the old church. I was just wandering around taking photos when I saw it (I have yet to go on a guided tour of any kind in the town) . So it was not something I had expected and thus I felt delighted to have found it all on my own.

Amazing, all these fantastic impressions of our country, a collage to be proud of, my friend. Karel's family is from Enkhuizen, en he very often was there during his youth. We want to go again to the Zuiderzee museum, but from where we live now it's quite far away (by Dutch standards, with all the traffic on the road.)
