I picked this because it's much more minimal than a lot of your recent pieces, minimal in the use of mainly blacks, grays and whites; and in the spare white background all around it. There are aqua blues in here, but it's mainly grays and whites. It feels like a highly ornamented slime mold making its way across a stark white surface. I don't know if you've seen slime molds (I don't know what areas you work in), but I thought they were gorgeous when I saw them years ago---primal and 'decorated', and just strange and beautiful. (It might consider a name change if it ever runs for office...) This is a like a lace linen slime mold. And the big protruding stinger, or proboscis, is perfect balance to the mass of the creature, which intensifies as we move to its center. I love how it's crawling flatly towards the upper left corner, or lower right corner. And it seems to move slowly because of its mass and spread. Wonderful modeling and shadows on those bas relief figures. And it's simple and almost a pencil drawing. More terrific work, Mandi.
