Description
The Piaggio P-108 was an Italian four-engined heavy bomber introduced in 1939 and entered into service with the Regia Aeronautica in 1941. With some interesting innovations in advanced wing design and armament, (notably remote controlled defensive gun turrets}, the P-108 was nevertheless plagued with engine reliability issues and generally poor flight handling. Some critics consider the aircraft to have exhibited some innovative ideas that were overly complex and questionably implemented. For instance, the aircraft was equipped with gun turrets on located on the outboard engine nacelles for rear defense that (arguably) really did not prove to be all that effective. The aircraft was design to be produced in four models including an airliner passenger model and a military transport version. The P-108 was the only four engine bomber fielded by the Regia Aeronautica during the war. Due to performance and maintenance issues, it's estimated that there were no more than seven or eight of these aircraft available at any one time. The p-108 was utilized by the Luftwaffe as troop transports till the end of the war.
A very unique looking aircraft with it's stepped canopy and glazed cockpit and nose area and the outboard gun turrets. I decided to do this as a simple composition to highlight the striking nose design. Pedro Caparros has crafted this beautiful historical model and generously made it available for free at sharecg. Thank you Pedro!
Nearly invisible crew: Epici low poly Enemy LW0R1 and Adh3d's versatile WW2 USAAF Pilot pack, both available here at Renderosity.

Simple but effective composition. I like it, as always. Thank you very much for the mention. To be honest I'm not entirely satisfied with this model (just I find something misshapen nose area and cockpit).
