Description

Solanum xanti, another native California plant is more commonly known as "Purple Nighshade". Apart from it's attractive purple flowers (which are followed by a tomato-like fruit) what brought me to photograph this was the strange looking bee captured. It turned out that it was not a bee or wasp at all; it is a hoverfly and it's defense is looking like one.
