Oh, a beautiful strong painting! Her visible eye glows. It also conveys a sense of privacy. This woman is staring to her left (our right), but she seems immersed in private feelings. You convey many different emotions in your portraits...And her big bold red lips show great passion, in an otherwise pale-skinned woman. But there's equal passion in your very thick, heavy blacks: Her hair is wonderfully overpowering; and her cape, coat or dress is like a big mound. And she reveals only a little of her breast (ala your title), which shows even more secrecy. Intense secrecy.

I love how you paint "into" the black, at the top and bottom of the painting: You've painted a gray brush into her hair, or perhaps you took a wet brush and painted away the black: Whichever you did, it makes her hair look like flame top. And you did the same thing on the bottom---I love that! It's like a paintbrush version of 'deckled edges'.

Finally, this is another of your paintings where you've tilted the painting against its support, so it comes to us on a slight angle---this suits this woman's gaze; because she seems out of sync with the world around her, harboring deep and private thoughts and feelings. A brilliant painting, Yves. Weighty, very provocative and suggestive...
