Description

The float would be dragged behind the ship, and a special cutting wire would slice through the wires that anchored sea mines to the ocean floor. The mines could then be destroyed by small arms fire when they floated to the surface. I took this shoot on board the HMAS Castlemaine.

The ever present " corvette " served in the north Atlantic on convoy duty and was hated by the German U-Boat crews. The ability of the corvette to track and hold the U-Boat in her asdic signal was chilling to the men in the German submarine service as once that steady ..ping.....ping....ping...ping hit the submarines hull it was only a matter of time before the depth charges found their intended victim and sank her. A great shot, my friend.
