The leaf bearing end of this long limb was cut by our highway maintenance crews, leaving a stub which could not contribute to the tree. Rather than growing new leaves and continuing its growth, the tree "chose" to cancel diminished contributions. I can assist with the removal of dead wood, but this 200+ year old tree has managed to take care of itself, and could survive another two hundred years. I see this and think of stem cell research, lost lizard tales and regeneration of healthy productive cells, which seems to be a path of our future.
