Description

More experimentation... This time I added a bit of glitter to the hair shader to get some highlights. This works, but does give the hair a bit of a greasy appearance. I pulled back the style to show off more of the expression. This helped alot to get rid of the ribboning hair effect. It takes away from some of the fun of the previous image, but produces a better portrait. I wanted to show off the eyes. To give the character more...errr...character, I slightly crossed the eyes. This gives her just a bit more of a real girl appearance to my eyes. I think it's the very slight imperfections on otherwise model perfect characters, that helps the brain to be more accepting of the character as having some sort of life. People asking about the lights. I've been working with Elianeck lights for Iray v.1. I rarely use the HDR environments (although, I would like to get better with them). I find that the 2 studio light set is a really good combo for bringing out skin texture. And, I plan to buy the new v.3. I'm sure that I could make up my own lights...and probably will. But, the Elianeck lights are really handy for basic lighting. The best tip I can give you for using them is: Set your Render Environment to "Scene Only." Then, move the lights where you want them to best effect. These are set up for close lighting. The Llight is your key and fill light. The point light is what gives the skin those nice highlights. So, they aren't what you want for a big daylight scene. But, then again, I have yet to get really decent results with a full skydome or sun sky setting. I imagine others are a lot better at that. I could use a really good tutorial on that.

She does have beautiful eyes. I always wanted to know how lights work on the new Daz as I used to do so many things with the old one. But I guess it's too complicated. Anyway I still like old figures. This is a beautiful character. Very good.

Gisela, I definitely agree that there are some really great figures for V4 and Genesis. It is a shame that there is no easy way to duplicate those meshes to G3. G3 has a lot going for it in terms of better bending and shaping. It's hard to do anything but pretty straight standing poses with V4 and not get some crazy stretching on her behind. I bought a bunch of pretty V4 figures before I realized the limitations. At least there are some addons that add Iray optimization on the old textures. They aren't perfect. But, they do add some new life into the legacy characters. Some sort of clever script named, "Match Mesh" or similar that uses a V4 character shape as a reference D-former to push and pull the Gen 3 figure to match, would be way cool. Anyone? :)

Honestly, the lights are pretty easy once you get used to them. I bought the Elianeck light package because I figured that starting from a preset would help me learn how it works. That seems to be the case. The most important thing I've learned is to turn off the rest of the environment if you want any kind of mood lighting. The skydome just seems to fill and flatten everything. That said, I have seen some good work with skydomes. I just haven't figured it out...yet. ;)
