Description

The Monteverde Cloudforest Biological Reserve is located along the Cordillera de Tilaran within the Puntarena and Alajuela Provinces of Costa Rica. This reserve houses 2.5 % of the worldwide biodiversity and 10% of its flora is endemic. Costa Rica represents only 0.03% of the landmass of the planet yet it has 5% of the biodiversity of the world. It was here that I heard my first howler monkey, sitting about 80-90-ft up in a canopy. The noise it makes is frightening, since it is amplified by the echo of the tree canopies. The actual air temperature and the dew point are almost the same, and it takes only a slight drop in temperature in the evening to envelop the entire region in dense fog, hence cloud forest.
