Description

Captured 5/1/16, on the beautiful grounds of the beautiful Homestead Museum in beautiful City of Industry, California. They played several old fashioned tunes for the visitors and dancers. ZOOM for better detail. Since the image was virtually a high contrast silhouetted photo, lots of postwork was involved to bring it up to snuff. I believe the performer in the foreground is playing the trombone.....right, Mark?

your postwork, ie, to deal with the intense light, not only gave you sweet details and contrasts, but it gave you full range reflections in those beautiful brass instruments. And yes, that's definitely a trombone! But I think it's with the second guy from the front, not the front guy---a bit of an illusion, but the second guy is moving the "slide" that typifies a trombone, while the first guy has both hands on his trumpet (or similar instrument). I really like your angle, the way the musicians circle around from the front guy to the accordion player. And a very shiny tuba on the far right---with a guy in the background who seems to have wandered into the shot, lol: You got him in the perfect spot between the two back musicians. Sweet contrasts in darks and lights here; and, for a musician, this shot has a lot of eye candy, including a notebook of music for approximately 4000 hours of playing, lol. (What does that guy have in there---the complete works of the 19th and 20th Centuries?) I really like the contrasts and the angles, it's a very pleasing shot. (And it looks like a traditional Germanic folk band---trumpet, trombone, tuba and accordion: They could almost play polkas!) Delightful.

The instrument I began on as a boy in the fourth grade. Gone a long way since then.
