Description

they marked with stars for some reason beyond me. maybe so people may think it was a Russian Tank, at least those that did not read the sign

WOW! A Sherman Firefly with 27 pounder gun. The British rebuilt some of the Shermans they purchased from the US in order to have a gun that had proven itself to be a decent response to the German Tiger i and Panther tanks. These were the Firefly tanks. As for the white stars, all allied tanks on the western front had the white star as identification. The Soviets had the red star.

T.Rex is right, the Firefly was a US sherman with British gun, replacing its US made gun. Great capture and find!!!!

I've heard that the white stars made great aiming points. Not popular with those on the receiving end.

Agree, strange about the markings as the M50 was an Israel 1950s upgrade and not allied WWII vintage. Assume it was imported without the original gun as does not have the muzzle brake. Interesting photo.
