Description

Graduating after a 12-week long basic training course at MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot), San Diego, California. A similar facility exists at Parris Island, South Carolina. During that time the recruits have marched 15 miles twice, carrying 100 pound packs, have learned discipline, and learned how to shoot. They were transformed from civilians to Marines. They all look like they weigh about 120 pounds (no fat on any of them), and, according to the announcements made during the graduating ceremonies, they all know how to wear their pants correctly, know how to make their beds, and eat anything put in front of them. From here they will be send to various locations depending on their specialty career fields for further training. I always find it encouraging watching these graduation ceremonies, restores faith in the military. When I retired and started to work out at Luke AFB I often ran across other retirees and we compared notes and it always was 'I used to be in the Air Force' or 'I used to be in the Army' or 'I used to be in the Navy', but I never heard a Marine say 'I used to be a Marine', they always answer 'I am a Marine'. no matter how long they served in the Corps or how long ago they retired. Also, every Marine knows the Marine Corps birthday - 10 November 1775. This picture was taken on 17 April 2009, Sig...

Handy things in a tough spot them Jarheads. Marines certainly have their uses and are great, professional co-workers (this from an ex-Squid who spent lots of time working with them). Semper Fi, dudes; now go kick ass!
