Description

The village of Bruniquel (Tarn-et-Garonne, France) has two castles, an "Old castle" and a "New castle." The two castles are situated on a rocky peak, 90 meters on a cliff on the banks of the Aveyron. On the ruins of a previous castle (6th century) was built the current "Old castle" in the 13th century. It was the property of the counts of Toulouse. The "New Castle" (on the right of the photo) was built in the late 15th century for another branch of the family of the counts of Comminges. For three centuries, the two branches were not going to stop quarreling, the owners of the "Old Castle" being catholic and those of the "New Castle" protestants! Neat capture, must be a pretty commanding view from up there...way above the peasants...LOL

A shame they couldn't get along and make just one really big castle !

Well done & ~Cheers~

Ils ne devaient pas s'ennuyer dans la famille de génération en génération! En tout cas ils avaient le point de vue pour surveiller tous les cavaliers et autres dans la région!
