Description

This is the larval case of the little moth, Psyche casta. They are named for the larval habit of constructing cases of vegetable fragments held together with silk. The larva carries the case about as it feeds, then fixes to a leaf or other object before pupating inside it. Males often fly by day, but females are wingless and remain in their larval cases, where they mate and lay eggs. Neither sex feeds in the adult state...how boring, I'm glad I'm not a bagworm! June to August in grassy places. This is on the path near the river, with a Fritz backside in view. Another individual with different tastes in disguise Here

Amazing macro shots and interesting information.

Smiles: They look like pieces of twigs in this stage.

Thanks for sharing Andrea.

I was going to say these look like twigs and then you tell me that it is deliberate. What clever little creatures but I agree with you on the not eating part.
