Description
This is my previously posted render, this time post-processed in MicroGrafx Picture Publisher and Corel PhotoPaint for an oil painting effect.
This render mimics the 1863 painting by Conrad Wise Chapman "Torpedo Boat David at Charleston Dock". According to Chapman, "This was the first torpedo boat ever constructed; it is being repaired in one of the docks of Charleston; places may be seen where the boat was struck by bullets. New plates are about being placed in position." You can find a high-resolution image of the painting here: http://www.moc.org/sites/default/files/Zoomify/04_Torpedo_Boat.html. The scene is mostly true to the painting, but I've added a few touches.
The pier is built from the Wharf Construction Kit (DAZ). The ramparts use a wall from the 1812 Blockhouse and the buildings are copies of the Typical Barn for Poser. The lumber is from the DAZ Medieval Construction Props. The crates, barrels and sacks are variously from the 40-Foot Baglah, the Hangar, Accessories for Tansys Docks (Content Paradise), and Rolling On (DAZ). The masts in the background are from the Cumberland (Ships of the Civil War). The mooring ropes are from the Rope Construction Kit. The small boat next to the David (my model retextured) is from John Boat and Punt Set (Capsces). The slightly larger one aft is from my Privateer submarine. The cart is an old freebie and the horse is from DAZ. The workers and soldiers are mostly M4 wearing Rocky Mountain Legends clothes (RDNA). Two are Lorenzo Lorez in the Confederate Civil War Uniform from Varsys.
The foreground gulls are from the Songbird Remix - Seabirds, the background from Flock Formations (both Hivewire3D). Zoe is always the Millennium Cat.
The water is from DAZ's Lake Village and the sky from Mayang textures. The bit of land in the foreground is from (the incredibly slow-rendering) Soggy Bottom (DAZ).
Composed and rendered in Poser 11 Pro.
