At 22:00 last night a whooper of a thunderstorm broke out where I live. Last time there was one this severe was in the 1980s. The lightning and thunder was right on top and around where I live. Much of the thunder and lightning was between clouds. I decided to see if I could get a photo somehow. NOT easy!
Suddenly, at 11:59 PM there was a deafening peal of thunder and a flash of lightning bright as the sun directly overhead. This resulted in my finger jerking and pressing the shutter. The result can be seen in the upper photograph. Further attempts at photographing anything failed. The storm returned at 4:50 with the same intensity but passed quickly onward.
Early this morning (5:35 AM) I took the lower photo from the same bedroom window to compare the day light with the light from the lightning. To me the light from the lightning is a good bit brighter than the morning light (still raining, cloudy, and some thunder).
ENJOY! (You're at least not getting soaked or deaf!)

Mother nature certainly knows how to put on a show. I have spent lots of time trying to get photos of lightning but have not had much success apart from a couple like this showing daylight at night. Well done.

yeah lightning is very scary natural occurrence. when I spent the night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana I could see lightning over the city and each bolt lasted so long I could aim and get a capture. what I did not realize that the double paned windows were causing a reflection ruining most of the shots .
I recognize this area where you live from previous posts. both are great shots

Sorry to hear this, we have very bad weather in Europe too, also thunderstorms, even small tornados and a lot of heavy rain!

A great comparison! Those lightning flashes definitely light things up! Great pair of shots, my friend!

Looks like a real lovely neighborhood where you live.
Maybe Thor farted at 11:59 pm.
