Description
Captured 6/5/16 @ 1:25 pm, at the beautiful Huntington Beach Concours d'Elegance held on the beautiful grounds of the Huntington Beach Central Park in beautiful Huntington Beach, California.
The Mercedes-Benz SSK was a roadster built by German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz between 1928 and 1932. Its name is an abbreviation of Super Sport Kurz, German for "Super Sport Short", as it was a short wheelbase development of the earlier Mercedes-Benz S. The SSK's extreme performance and numerous competitive successes made it one of the most highly regarded sports cars of its era.

About 40 were built for European road racing. Most were wrecked.

Interesting catch. I recall replicas like this were quite popular back in the 80's. Many of those back then weren't necessarily based on real cars, but were mere adaptations of current vehicles which received modifications to make them look like older ones; the name Gazelle comes to mind as an example. There are also some very interesting cars in the background too.

I'm skipping so I can get some of the variety in your more recent shots. As in your other car pieces, you give us several angles, incl some closeups at the end. The top shot gives us the amazing front view, with that long fender and eyeglass-like headlights. It's stunning. You caught the sheen as well as the near cream-white body, and its contrast with the reds. (That era also gave us the spectator shoe---the famous 2-toned brogue which rich people wore, along with gangsters and hoodlums). The 2 tones are beautiful. The 2d shot gives us a straightaway side view, well composed with open space in front---something I assume is at a premium in these shows. (It lets it breathe with all the commotion around it. It also shows us the true length of the this, and those beautiful tires. Then a back view (with a tail on the end tire? Or a feather?) We get to see the steering wheel and beautiful 'cockpit'. Finally, your closeups, with sheen and curve, etc. The leather belt across the hood---I assume that's to discourage people from lifting the hood? Very clear and well angled shots, Harry; and hard to believe people raced these: If you're gonna buy a car this expensive, and this beautiful, why race it? I'd treat it like a jewel. And I like the die on the tire, in number 4. (They're on tires in other shots too.) A real gambler's car...

I like that extended front silhouette; I can easily imagine Sean Connery behind the wheel of this very elegant sportsbeast...well done, Harry!
