Description

Another windswept maiden... here we have Ištar, often known by the Hellenised form Astarte. Some Phoenecian coins show her standing on the prow of a galley leaning forward with right hand outstretched, so I guess she is the original figurehead for all sailing ships. She is associated with the evening star (venus) and later became the Aphrodite of the Greek pantheon.
