Description

The Boeing B-29 "Superfortress' 'Fifi' is currently the only flying B-29 in the world. It belongs to and is maintained by the Commemorative Air Force. This aircraft also gave rides, but at a cost much higher than the $225 we paid for 1/2 hr on the Gooney Bird. A 1/2 hour ride on the B-29 may be as much as $1800, depending where one sits. This aircraft is incredibly expensive to operate, from the aviation fuel to the maintenance. A few years ago it was just about grounded for lack of cash to maintain it when someone donated 2 million dollars to acquire four new engines. I got to sit in the pilots seat in Fifi a number of years ago at Beale Air Force base in Northern California. At the time I was a full 6 foot 7 inches tall (I have shrunk with age lol). I was bent to the side like someone was pulling on my ear, mimicking the round shape of the fuselage. Very cool experience.

I have shots in my gallery of 2 engines being overhauled at Addison Airport Museum. I have been wanting to see it flying and or complete. it really looks different from this pov than looking toward the front
