Description

The Steller's jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the blue jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the long-crested jay, mountain jay, and pine jay. It is the only crested jay west of the Rocky Mountains. While it does not have as prominent a crest the Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) can be found west of the Rockies especially in south east British Columbia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steller's_jay not a good capture but I wanted to share. was the first time for me to see this species in person. I had the camera adjusted for taking dark and bright landscapes and failed to readjust for this bird

It is sometimes difficult to change the camera to a new model, especially when he's shy! But this bird is gorgeous, and your capture very nice! Thanks for sharing, Richard!

It is very difficult for a bird to choose a specific setting. A Bird with this dark plumage. Before you have set something on your camera, the bird is long fly away.

Quite the variation on the Jay bird. Still, a pretty nice photo. You have to grab them when you can! Well done! Bravo!

We have a lot of these where I live. There are a lot of scrub jays as well, and the two species seem to get along pretty well.
