Description

Took this on my phone so it is a bit grainy. During our vacation to the Florida Keys (a short drive for us) we were honored by the little Key Deer who let us have the privilege of taking their photos. The Key Deer were brought over from Spain in the years before our country was founded. These tiny deer only exist on Big Pine Key. They are a sub-species of the white tail deer and are the smallest of the the North American Deer species. They average 30 inches tall and weigh about 50-75 pounds. They are highly endangered and more than 150 of these deer die every year due to speeders. These little deer are very, very friendly, but it is illegal to feed or touch them in any way
