Pour introduire son roman, Gérard Klein cite Pierre Mora qui explique dans Le Jeu des échecs : « Le gambit est un sacrifice intéressé et volontaire de pion, intervenant dans la phase initiale de la partie, soit dans le but d'en retirer un avantage de position ou une attaque, soit pour s'emparer de l'initiative des opérations ». Le titre annonce deux des éléments qui seront présents tout au long du roman : les échecs et les étoiles, l'immensité de l'espace The Gambit stars is a science fiction novel written by Gérard Klein and appeared for the first time in 1958 by Editions Hachette / Gallimard. Meaning of title The novel takes its title from a chess move, the gambit. To introduce his novel, Gérard Klein cites Peter Mora explains in The Chess: "The gambit is interested and willing sacrifice of pawn involved in the initial stage of the game, either in order to obtain benefits from position or an attack, or to seize the initiative of operations.
