Description
Hello Rendosians !
Today, I share with you a photo taken two years ago, during my vacation, in Cognac.
Cognac is a french town located in Charente and famous all around the world for the liquor with the same name.
The most popular Cognacs are produced by Henessy, Martell or Otard.
Curiously, Cognacs are mostly produced for exportation : USA and Japan are the main destinations for this expensive liquor. Martell has even designed special bottles for these two countries !
It takes a very long time to produce a very good Cognac. The most expensive ones are the older : the famous 'XO' waited patiently for 10 years (and more) in wood barrels and then in huge glass bottles named "Dame-Jeanne". A part of the liquor is lost in evaporation : it is called "La Part des Anges" (the angel's part).
During the XVII centurie, Cognacs were transported in barrels on a boat like this one. It is named "gabare" .
The Juste Edouard is a reconstitution of one of these old gabares and is exposed in Martell museum in Cognac where they recreated the atmosphere of an XVII century town.
Thanks for your comments and support ! I really appreciate your visits on my gallery !
Havre a great day !

A very nice picture and interesting information Virginie. I got curious a few years ago to find out the difference between Brandy and Cognac. WhatIi found out is that cognac is brandy, but brandy made from grapes grown in the region of Cognac only. here in my area (Phoenix) the brands which are usually sold are Courvoisier and Remy Martin, either V.S. or V.S. O.P. I occasionally have a glass of either
