Description

I spotted this mailbox in Tangermuende on the Elbe River in Standal District, Saxony-Anhalt on a day drive with my brother in summer 2000. Tangermuende used to be in the former East Germany. According to information available on the internet these mailboxes started to appear in certain regions in Germany after 1890. In 1985 the Deutsche Post of the former DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik), issued a four-stamp collection showing historical mailboxes, of which this was one of them., This picture was taken in summer odf 2000 and later scanned, Sig..
