Description
I wrote this over 10 years ago ( when I was still writing) I think it still rings true today:
I closed my Face Book page last week. No one noticed. Seriously. Not a single person on my friends list has thus far mentioned my leaving. That says volumes about me, or them…or the whole FB premise that the “I” is more important than the “you”. In my world, everyone comes with a story….everyone. All I have to do is listen. In this virtual blip blop world, the only story that is important is the mine. Millions of one sided identities who strive for the biggest friends list or the Twitter tripe that garners the most quips. I keep asking, where is the story? Who are you., what are your dreams and horrors…..what makes you uniquely “you”. I don’t want to press some vague “likes” button. I don’t want to leave a 50 character comment. I want to discuss. I miss the old MSN groups (actually, they were originally called Communities) We talked, we played stupid games, and we talked. I am one of those people who say that change is the antithesis of decay, but some changes are the actual decay. When people stop talking to each other and focus solely on talking at each other, the humanity that makes us special is slowly but inevitably eroded away. It scares me. Perhaps I can say it better here…
The souls within their eyes do speak
Calling out to hear,
See the cry within my smile
Touch this heart of fear.
Find not fault with how I am
Understanding I do seek
I am angry, quiet, bold
Perhaps you find me meek.
Each comes with a story
Feelings, hurts and joys.
And, there is within each
The need to quiet noise.
I simply take what's given,
A spark within me lights.
A tiny piece of offered soul
I'll keep it safe -
And write.
Go talk to someone. Give a tiny piece of yourself, and then really, really listen to what they have to say.

Very beautiful looking scene & Great Statement (that's the reason why I am not very often there & that will also be the reason why I will not be so often here at Rendero - Lol)!

Words are just so true for me and you.

Exquisite image and spot-on words.I too miss the groups. There are 5 of us who still are part of a small circle of friends who exchange emails through GoogleGroups. We met each other in larger groups dedicated to fractals and have become real friends. We know each other--personally. It's a treasure, really.

A wonderful image my friend and you are so right no one has the time nowadays your poem is so fitting....I get this a lot in real life too with family members who are only interested in themselves, I feel invisible at times :(

Super image. Agree with you, everyone has their head stuck in something. xx

Excellent work on both the image and the writing. I totally agree with your statement. I've never been a big fan of FaceBook and find those that are constantly checking it for the latest post more than slightly annoying. Look up from your screen and talk to me and/or your children. Aren't we more important than a little gadget?

Fantastically well done my friend !!!

Fantastic idea and presentation, excellent poem! I am not much of a FB user, I have to that admit that I click like or react to a lot but, I do speak to those who post meaningful post or that are known to me, though i reality if I did what you have done, I believe I would get the same result, no one would miss me, eve those that call me friend.

I used to participate in discussion forums and email lists. I found the format on FB impossible to do anything worthwhile on, so I just post a weekly column on science and pictures from other artists that I like. I share the work of other artists from Rendo on Facebook. I have actually had people subscribe to my feed. One guy working in graphene subscribed after one of my science columns was graphene heavy. I do exactly the same thing in Google. On Facebook most of my 'friends' are older people, many of whom knew me 40 years ago when I used to put on armor and fight in tournaments. On Google it is mostly Christians interested in home schooling and people from Asia. Interesting mix. I participate, not for anything from my 'audience' but for the satisfaction of doing something. I actually only look at Google and Facebook once a week, every Saturday morning when I post my science column.

Good image - hiding behind mesh-like masks. They remind me of Venetian carnival masks and the trivial superficiality of such events. Your writing is on the button. Usually, when confronted with a mass of text on the computer screen, I usually glance superficially, or simply skip it - too much eye strain (despite good glasses. It may also be stress to get through a mass of text). Here, I had to stop and read carefully. As for FaceBook, I don't post anything. I don't want the whole world to read about me, my every day problems, my health, etc... I'm bad enough revealing myself here at Renderosity. I read friends and colleagues posts, but few have any real value. I have been tempted to leave Facebook, particularly considering who owns what of what's posted. And I don't relish the NSA and other security people snooping in their search for bad people. I've also seen how these electronic media and gadgets build walls between people in one's environment, while at the same time creating superficial friendships at great distances. The real caring for friends next door vanishes. The greatest culprits are the cell phones. Well, good image and great text. I just had to stop and read and add my 2 cents worth. Keep up the good work! :-)

I have never granted any human v alue or to Facebook or a twitter for me ... these are A-social networks ... where some other spy or some flash in front of others, but what is certain is that enormous dangers lurking on these sites "worth" millions of dollars! It's my opinion.

Love the poem - it rings so true. Welcome to the "me generation". Gone are the days when there are actually face to face conversation. One can make any comment they wish, remain anonymous, and suffer no consequences. Thankfully, I live in a small community which actually interacts.

You speak total truth in the message and render. Interestingly, there are so many like the "us" you speak of. Not the seekers of the most friends on FB , or the troll that needs to create chaos when discussion is what is called for. So here is the offer. If you ever want to just talk, I am a key stroke away. It may not be the community you and I miss but it is a start. As you see from your render, you are part of something where people feel.

There is within each,
The need to quiet noise.
I simply take what's given,
A spark within me lights.
There is within each of us,
The need to be heard,
There is within each of us,
The need to quiet noise.
I simply take what's given,
A spark within me lights.
I simply take what I can,
I simply take what's given.
Thanks for the inspiration Quiet. I am a fan, hope you keep posting here... 😎
