Description

... the Matterhorn ! The Matterhorn (in german) or Monte Cervino (in italian) or Mont Cervin (in french) is a peak located in Switzerland in a canton named Valais on the borderline between Switzerland and Italy. This 4478m high peak has a very distinctive shape famous all around the world. If you are found of swiss chocolates, you have certainly seen its shape drawn on the package of the famous Toblerone chocolates. The Matterhorn was climbed for the firs time in 1865 by a british expedition led by Edward Whymper but it was a deadly adventure : four out of the seven men died during this journey. Picture taken during my last vacation, from Sunnega. I've noticed that the Matterhorn was very shy : it was hiding behind the clouds :-) I hope you enjoy the view as much as I did Thanks for all your comments on my last image ! Have a great week-end ! Virginie

What a marvelous shot ! I had the opportunity to skiing at the feet of the Cervino mountain, from the Italian side and I remember it as if it were yesterday :)

Fantastic capture of this beautiful mountain Virginie. One of our neighbors in Berlin died on that mountain while climbing it. What makes this picture really nice is the flowers in the foreground.
