Description
The versatile French aircraft, the Caudron R-11 was first developed as an armed reconnaissance aircraft, appearing at the end of the war in 1917-18. It sported the refinements of a more streamlined fuselage and engine nacelles and nose, a large tail area for better stability, and carried 5 7.7mm Lewis machine guns. Some historians rank it as an heavy fighter before the class existed. Some 370 units were manufactured and remained in service as reconnaissance, escort, and fighter-bomber duties till they were retired from service in 1922.
Excellent model generously shared for free by Lucien_Lilippe at sharecg and here on Rendo. Some texture adjustments.

Figures posed in Poserpro14; composed and set up, some texturing, lighted and rendered in Vue6Infinite; Lighting adjustments and some corrections in PS CS3

How brave they must have been to climb to 20,000 ft in a craft with as open a cockpit as this one has! A beautiful image!

I'd not heard of this aircraft before I saw this model. It's an excellent model and great scene from you Bill.

I've never heard of it. Interesting history. Must have been very cold up at altitude. Where did they have all those machine guns? In the wings? Also, leaning out to take photos - it's a frightening long way down. I assume the recon was at lower altitudes if photography was involved. Very fine looking model! Thanks Lucien! Keep up the good work! :-)
